Florida Digital Studios is a full service, video, web and multi-media production facility with over 30 years of proven industry experience.  Founded in 1982 in Pinellas County, Florida by former network newsman Jay Gross, the company has produced hundreds of broadcast quality programs.  Our clients include major corporations, independent producers, PR firms, advertising agencies, government, and small businesses.

Our studio production capabilities encompass all standard and high definition broadcast television formats in use today worldwide. No more NTSC vs. PAL. We offer both, as well as DVD’s that will play in any country.  Most recently we have focused our efforts on the mainstream emergence of Internet and web based video.

In addition to standard definition “legacy” formats, we offer most major HD formats including; HDCAM, XDCAM, HDV and DVC-Pro HD. FDS is also involved with authoring standard DVD as well as high definition Blu-ray for spectacular results at trade shows and large screen presentations.  

Another area of expertise is green screen technology. Florida Digital has a dedicated 20 foot wide green cyclorama studio and a secondary 1,000 foot studio for single and multiple camera shooting and live Internet streaming. Our two large and “client friendly” HD post production studios feature Apple Final Cut Pro editing systems with numerous plug-in and highly experienced editorial personnel.

(SD) Standard 4:3 Video Studio And Field Production Capabilities

Standard definition (SD) the 480i production standard is far from dead. Do not confuse the change of broadcast technology from analog to digital as a death knell for the basically square (4:3) standard TV screen. It will be around for a long, long time. Florida Digital supports virtually all of the standard definition SD legacy formats.

FDS fully supports HD to SD down-conversions from any HD source to allow it to be viewed and or edited in the SD format. This is not at all an uncommon practice. Many companies shoot in HD, but still edit and deliver in SD.

HD Video Digitizing and HD Dubs

Florida Digital offers conversions to and from most established HD tape formats. These include: HDCAM, DVC-Pro HD, and HDV.   Request a quote for multiple master discounts. We can also digitize to a firewire drive as well as renting you or selling you a drive with your footage already digitized for your favorite editing program. Ask about our media drive rental program. Please be prepared to let us know the codec and the parameters you would like us to use to digitize. Most popular HD codecs are Apple Pro Res and DVC Pro.

HD Output from Hard Drive

Need to output your final edit master from your hard drive to an HDCAM or other HD tape format or to Blu-ray? Just send or bring us your portable hard drive and specify your output format! FDS can also dub and cross convert to or between any of the HD tape or disc formats as needed. Handling various frame rates and special requirements such as letterbox, pulldown, configuring multiple audio tracks etc. is no problem for our skilled technicians. We follow rigorous guidelines and quality control procedures to ensure that complex HD specifications are always maintained. We also transfer and author to Blu-Ray BD-R.

HD Video Down Conversions and Cross Conversions

Need to go from one HD format to another? You got it! No matter what camera you use, Varicam, XDCAM, P2 Cameras or Cine Alta HDCAM, we are here to support you. Need to down convert to SD 4:3 in either Digi-Beta, or DVCAM or even Panasonic Pro-25/50? Need to maintain that 16:9 aspect ratio? No problem! All down and cross conversions are routed via premium SDI cables. Handling various frame rates and special requirements such as letterbox, crop or anamorphic. This is not a problem for our HDTV technicians.

SD Video to HD Video UP Conversions

With the stunning quality of HD pictures, it is sometimes difficult to go back to working in SD. There are also many HD projects that need to include SD or “legacy” footage. We can up convert with excellent results from most SD formats, including, Digital Beta, Beta-SP, DVCAM, Mini DV, DVCPRO/25/50, etc.

Ask about direct transmission of files from your computer to us to your end users, especially to broadcasters and cable stations. We are extremely competitive with DG Fast Channel and others.

Digital SD Broadcast Formats

Broadcast quality duplication is always readily available in all the standard definition SD digital formats. Choose from Digital Betacam, DVCAM, Mini-DV as well as Panasonic Pro-25 or Pro-50. We offer the fastest turn around available for your Commercial Spots, PSA’s and Infomercials. FDS can easily ship your on-air tapes and spots directly to television and cable outlets…saving you time as well as the expense of double shipping. FDS’ duplication service is always competitively priced.

Closed & Open Captioning {CC} & Subtitling

Fulfilling the legal requirement of Closed and Open Captioning doesn’t have to be complicated.  Whether you need high definition or standard line 21 SD captions, Florida Digital's expert technicians use the latest software and encoding equipment to assure that your program is Closed Captioned to network & cable broadcast specifications. Need Blu-ray Subtitled? No problem, we specialize in Blu-ray Authoring and Subtitling.  Broadcast quality captioning is always available even if you do not have your script transcribed. Legacy Formats (Analog)

Broadcast quality duplication is also still available in standard definition analog Betacam SP, 3/4-inch, and 1-inch. The latter two formats are getting harder and harder to find.

High Definition Services

Unlike most post productions houses, Florida Digital Studios can provide you with image and video conversions to and from any form of high definition format. While the great majority of post production houses near Tampa Florida may require significant lead time before digitizing can be performed, Florida Digital Studios has distilled high definition dubbing to a science, and our quick and easy formatting and services can provide you with top-quality digitized video or imagery in half the time of most post production houses.

High Definition Digitizing and Dubbing

Convertible formats include HDCAM, DVC-Pro HD, and HDV. We can also provide analog to digital services and convert digital to analog, in addition to providing you with a portable hard drive that has your data pre-formatted according to your specifications or program requirements. To utilize this service, please be sure to have your software parameters, codecs, or special formatting requirements specified.

High Definition Output

Florida Digital Studios can transfer your final edit or master data from a hard drive to HDCAM or Blu-ray data disc quickly and easily. Simply bring us your storage media and specify your digital output parameters, and we can have your master formatted or Blu-ray authored and burned to disc right away. Unlike some post production houses near Tampa, Florida, we can also author or cross convert from one high definition source to another, such as transferring from HD 1080 to 720 or vice versa. When using this service, please be sure to let us know if you have any special requirements like frame rates, widescreen formatting, expanded audio, or whatever technical augmentations you like. Rest assured that our formatting and transfer guidelines and quality assurance procedures ensure that your master data is safe and secure at all times, and HD specs are maintained throughout the transfer.

High Definition Conversions

Transferring from one high definition format to another may be a problem for some post production houses, but not for Florida Digital Studios. Regardless of your hardware parameters or your required specifications, we can transfer between digital formats quickly and easily while maintaining all the formatting you’ve already implemented, such as aspect ratios, frame rate minimums, anamorphic sizing, or captioning.

Standard Definition to High Definition

Reformatting older versions of standard definition video to high definition can be a challenging task for many post production houses, but not for Florida Digital Studios. Our conversion procedures can quickly and efficiently upgrade your older legacy footage to high definition. Additionally, some projects require transfer from high definition to standard definition – we can do this as well, with minimal loss in overall image quality.
